WOW!

Undefeated Hudson Storm beats previously undefeated St Patrick's 23-22 on a Grace Stone free throw in the final seconds. A total team effort opening whistle to final buzzer. St Pats made the Storm work for it. Outstanding individual performances on defense and rebounding as well as very solid team defense. 8-0 is a great accomplishment! All the girls and parents should be very proud. Way to go Storm!

Storm v St William 11/28

Great game yesterday afternoon! Girls really seemed to take advantage of every opportunity with tough defense, great rebounding and finding the open girl on the offensive end. A couple new wrinkles that Allen threw in at the last minute worked well and the girls deserve a lot of credit for being able to work together to make the new plays happen.

When you see the videos it's obvious that the entire team was very active and involved in all aspects of the game on both ends of the floor.

Carrie Moore Webb Clinic

Thanks very much to Carrie Moore for working so hard with the girls yesterday morning! Hope everyone had a great time and learned a lot!

From Carrie

Hey guys!

Just wanted to say thanks for letting me come down today. Although I was a bit sleep deprived, it was a beautiful day to come down and see your kneck of the woods and get in the gym with the girls again.

I know I say this a lot but your daughters are so talented and have TREMENDOUS potential. I'm just glad that I can be a tiny bit a part of them learning the game that I love so much.

I hope the games went well this afternoon. My lil sis played great at LIU. It was great to see her in a Tech uniform and be able to cheer her on in the college ranks.

I am now halfway home on the train and can't wait to hop in the bed when I get home.

:)

Thanks again,
Carrie

7-0!

Very nice job today!! Well balanced attack and you did a fantastic job of running "Boston". I am so proud of all of you.

Practice Wed 5-6:30 @ St. Hyacinth.

Go Storm!! 7-0 Awesome!!! :)

Another win in a long weekend!

Great job against St Rose on Sunday in spite of some extremely suspect officiating.

Fun Game!

Saturday's game against St Mary's was one of the very best The Storm has played! Great ball movement, great spacing, very unselfish play with everyone contributing. The entire team should be extremely proud of their effort and intensity.

Keep working hard, listening to coach, playing together as a team and good things will happen!

Great Practice!

The girls were working hard in preparation for a very big weekend.

Saturday the Storm travels back to St Mary's. Sunday we are at home against St Rose.

2010 Princeton Sports Camps Schedule Now Available

Schedule for Princeton Sports Camps is now available online if you click here.

Unfortunately the skills camp is going to be during the last week of the Glen Cove School District's school year.
Looks like Woody is planning on being out sick that week "cough... cough".

Carrie Moore Workout

The Storm had a fantastic trip down to Princeton New Jersey on Saturday for a workout with Carrie Moore at Jadwin Gym. All the girls worked extremely hard during a grueling session that lasted nearly three hours. Lots of concentration on fundamental basketball in addition to conditioning.

Carrie is a great motivator and an inspiration to the girls. She is now the head of women's basketball operations at Princeton after an impressive college career of her own leading the nation in scoring in 2007. Hopefully we can have Carrie come up to Long Island in the next few weeks to once again work with the girls.

Princeton Stony Brook Game

The girls and families had a great time last night! It was a wonderful game and the girls got to participate in some of the activities on the floor and meet some of the players after it was all over.

Great video of everyone having fun and all the college atmosphere. Who knew Aaron was such an amazing dancer?!

All the girls really took to Venus Rasheed and Devona Allgood who both had great games. They got to chat with them and their teammates after the game.

Great Scrimmage/ Princeton v Stony Brook

Great work by The Storm last night! It looked like the girls were learning a lot and figuring out some things that were new to at least a few of them. Scrimmages are a great way to see if what you are trying to think about and work on during practice is working in game situations. The scoreboard isn't what matters in a scrimmage, it's what is being taught and learned on the floor and the effort that the girls put in especially when they are down or trying new things. Experiences like these are what make good teams great and great teams even better. Thanks St Boniface!

The Storm will be going to Stony Brook University to see the Princeton Tigers women's basketball team play the Stony Brook Sea Wolves in the season opener of the 2009/10 season on Friday 11/13. It should be a great time for everyone! Thanks to Rikk Stone for setting this up. Big thanks to Carrie Moore, director of women's basketball operations at princeton, for the passes to Friday's game. Wear your black and orange!

Directions to Stony Brook

The basketball facility at Stony Brook is called the West Wing of the Indoor Sports Complex

Scrimmage Tonight

Tonight's scrimmage against St Boniface 6th graders should be a lot of fun. It will give The Storm a chance to work on their plays, see if they can run and perfect 5, twirl, 14 high, against bigger girls without the pressure of a real game. It will also be a nice way to stay ready for the Storm's next game against St Mary's on the 21st.

Storm v St Mary

Great game yesterday against a tough St Mary's squad!

Everyone worked very hard and the entire team contributed to another hard fought victory. 4-0 is a great start lets keep it going! GO STORM!

Gritty Win

Sometimes it makes you better when things don't come easy and you have to grind out a win like the Storm did yesterday. The shots weren't falling but you could see the intensity and determination as the defense stepped up big time in the second half for a gritty win.

Looking Ahead

Looks like the Storm, at 2-0, is one of three undefeated teams left in our CYO league. The other two are St Patrick which is 1-0 after beating St William, and Good Shepherd which is at 3-0. Some of the girls might remember playing Good Shepherd at St Dom's last April during Super League, they were called Wildfire. By the time we meet St Pats on 12/5 we should know more about them. We will play Good Shepherd in the Storm's last game of the season on 1/10. That should be a game for the girls to look forward to.

This weekend will feature three days of basketball for the Storm. On Friday the girls will have their third practice of the CYO season. All of the girls have realized by now that they must pick up a ball on their own and work on their game outside of practice and games if they truly want to get better. With limited gym availability and busy families with all kinds of busy schedules individual basketball "homework" becomes very important.

On Saturday at 3:45 The Storm will face St Bernard at St Hyacinth gym for our first home game! St Bernard is 2-2 and most recently won a close game against Christ The King.

On Sunday The Storm will travel alllllll the way down 25A to our close neighbor Manhasset and descend into the bowels of the earth to face a tough St Mary's team on their home floor for a noon game. Hey! Isn't there an iHop on the way there? hmmmm......

2-0 this early in the season is a very nice start but the girls must stay focused and ready... there is still an awful lot of basketball to be played.

GO STORM!

It was pretty rough out there, hope everyone heals up well enough for tomorrow's game. Amarra and Brady looked like they took a few battle scars home with them as souvenirs.

Metro Classic

All of the Storm girls should try to catch at least some of the Metro Classic All Star HS girl's basketball game on Sunday.

MSG VARSITY NETWORK (www.msgvarsity.com) will be televising the game.
TUNE IN TO MSG'S HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS DESK - CH. 14 - 7PM - today, tomorrow and friday to see preview of Metro Classic game.

Looks like it will be a live webcast on msgvarsity.com as the MSG varsity website doesn't seem to have it scheduled for live TV on Sunday.

Maybe some of our girls will be playing in this game in 7 or 8 years!

Practice Tonight and Fri. - Sat. Game Info

Practice this evening Wednesday 10/21 at St.Hyacinth 7:30-8:45pm. Time to get ready for The Storm's first big weekend of the new CYO season.

Friday at 6:45 we play St Rose in the first game of the CYO season. For those of you who know McKenzie this is the team she plays on and they were undefeated last year. Should be a good game and it will be nice to see McKenzie and her parents. Looks like St Rose lost their first game of this season to a very good Christ The King team in an extremely close game.

Return of the Storm! Will it be the first step in a repeat of last year's undefeated season? If our girls work just as hard as they always do it should be a lot of fun for them. Storm Photos

Just a few images of the team from their undefeated summer season. You can see how hard they work and the fun that they have with the game.

It was a fun summer and all the girls should have wonderful memories of all their hard work and how it paid off.

It really is a great bunch of girls and any parent who has done the "sports thing" before knows what a difference great girls, great parents, great coach makes.

Hopefully everyone will enjoy their time off from basketball and come back hungry for the CYO season.

Parents should be very proud. This is a very special group of girls.

7-0 UNDEFEATED!

Well there ya go! Hudson Storm absolutely crushed St William tonight to complete an undefeated summer season in a 30-9 win at St Hyacinth gym. The lopsided score doesn't tell the whole story of tonight's game. It was a gritty, hard fought victory with girls scrambling for every rebound and every single loose ball. In spite of some questionable officiating the Storm's impenetrable defense, shot blocking, rebounding as well as the pride and determination that has been evident the entire season got the girls the win that they deserved. All the girls should be extremely proud of their accomplishment! Congratulations St Hyacinth Storm! Congratulations Coach Hudson!

We will be putting up some video of the last two games in addition to a Summer STORM highlight film in the next couple of days. See everyone at the pizza party!

Last Game of Summer Storm!

Go STORM!

After beating Our Lady of Hope on Monday night 25 to 3 to go 6 wins against no losses on the season, the Storm had a spirited practice Tuesday evening. Rather than scrimmage Coach Hudson worked on the plays. All the girls in attendance were put through their paces at their respective positions running Five, Pittsburgh, Twirl, 14 High etc.. While all of the girls know the plays they still get flustered from time to time under pressure. After last night they should be far more comfortable as well as confident that their teammates are all on the same page.

Tonight is the final game of the summer CYO season for the Storm. What an exciting season it has been! The girls play St William for the third and final time at St Hyacinth Gym, 7:30pm. St William has consistently been the best competition they have faced in game situations. After three weeks preparation St William will certainly be ready and, although short handed, I know the Storm will be too. It should be a very exciting game!

Go STORM!

Monday, August 10, 2009

Here we go!

Big week ahead for the Storm!

Tonight we play Our Lady of Hope, 6pm at Christopher Morley Park Searingtown Rd in Roslyn, bring a chair to sit on. Hopefully it will cool down a little bit before 6.

The girls played extremely well and had a relatively easy time against this team last week. Tonight's game should not be taken lightly, it should be seen as an opportunity to work on the skills they've been learning in practice, to play team ball, get everyone involved and to really start running the plays to perfection. The girls still need to learn to challenge themselves regardless of who the opposition is.

Coach has called a special Tuesday night (6pm St Hyacinth's Gym) practice for a reason. We will meet St William, the best team we have played this summer, at St Hyacinth's Gym on Wednesday night to close out the summer season. The last game St William played was a loss to the Storm on July 22nd. This means that St William has had three weeks to prepare for Wednesday night's game against a team it would very much like to beat. That gives added significance to tonight's game as well as the Tuesday night practice. Our girls have worked very hard this summer. It would be a lot of fun for the girls to close out the summer season on Wednesday night with a bang!

Let's encourage our girls to play hard, play smart, use the plays and skills they have developed and most of all to have fun at tonight's game!

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

Another terrific win!

Terrific 45-18 win last night with all the girls contributing.

Monday, August 3, 2009

Get Psyched for Game Tonight!

Tonight our girls put their undefeated four wins no losses record on the line. We will be playing Our Lady of Hope for the first time this season. OL of Hope is currently the second place team with a three wins one loss record.

The Storm has been building momentum and if the last practice is any indication it looks like they should be ready to show their best stuff tonight. All the girls were working very hard to learn all of the plays and things are starting to really come together. Wednesday night's practice was especially intense, the girls scrimmaged against one another very, very aggressively. Tonight should be fun, they get to test the progress they've made, their play making abilities, skill and ferocity against their opponent rather than one another.

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

4 and 0

Great job last night!

Great team play led the Storm to their 4th straight win last night. The girls continue to get better and better with each and every game.

St William The Lost Episodes

Here's some additional video which Blake took and set to music.

Thursday, July 23, 2009

Slugfest, Storm v St William rematch

The girls played tough against a very determined St William team allowing their opponent only 5 points in the entire first half. The second quarter was probably the difference in the game where a strong Storm defense held St William scoreless. There is no way to win if you can't score, it's that simple.

St William made a big push in the second half with stand out performances by number 44 (Kaitlyn) and number 33 (Emily) who left everything they had out on the floor. It wasn't enough to overcome the outstanding defense and rebounding of the Storm who came away with a hard won 24-19 victory.

Every girl on the Storm contributed to the victory by playing with determination and effort and they should be very proud of coming away with a win. St William is a good team with talented players and wins against them do not come easily.

These two teams will be meeting one last time this summer on August 12th at St Hyacinth gym. Both teams will be ready next time and it should prove to be yet another exciting match-up.

Commitment

Ask coach Hudson about commitment. Rushing back from a b-day party in Queens on a Sunday evening to practice with only three girls.

The girls worked very hard and these three wolves will certainly be ready to meet the challenge of St William on Wednesday night.

Friday, July 17, 2009

Sunday Practice

The Storm will once again face St William this coming Wednesday at 7:30, this time at St Hyacinth's gym. This is a tough team with talented players that will likely be better prepared this time around. It would be nice to welcome them to our home gym with the third Storm victory of the season. That means this Sunday's 6:00 practice at the GCHS gym will be an especially important one.

Last Monday's victory came after an intense Sunday practice and turned out to be a great game!

Practice pays off!!!

I am so proud of each and every one of the girls tonight. An excellent display of team ball and they truly unleashed the wolves on Holy Family. I was most impressed with the number of assists during the game and their tenacity on defense. I was extremely impressed with how well they ran the plays to perfection. Watchout Liberty-here comes the St. Hyacinth storm. Wawa!!!

Monday, July 13, 2009

Great Game!

Wow! Every single girl contributed in a convincing win over Holy Family tonight.
Rebounding, defense and unselfish play led the way to victory. Great passing brought the team seven assists, a new team record!

It must be very rewarding for coach Allen to see the girls doing all the things during the game that they have been working so hard on in practice.

Congratulations!

Practice 7/12

The girls are practicing and working very hard to get better. Practice is where games and whole seasons are won and lost. Not only are the girls working hard on improving their individual skills but they also learn to run the plays to perfection.

If these girls play as hard as they practiced Sunday evening they will be unstoppable in Monday nights game.

Congratulations to the Storm on their first win of the summer season!

A Storm is coming

The girls are going all out at practice in preparation for their first game on Monday night. If the effort and intensity they put into their game Monday is anywhere close to their effort in practice.... LOOK OUT!

Scrimmages against their teammates may well be the most difficult opponent these girls can possibly face right now. They are challenging each other in practice and pushing one another to become much better basketball players. This should prove to be a very exciting summer season!
