Storm v St William 11/28

Great game yesterday afternoon! Girls really seemed to take advantage of every opportunity with tough defense, great rebounding and finding the open girl on the offensive end. A couple new wrinkles that Allen threw in at the last minute worked well and the girls deserve a lot of credit for being able to work together to make the new plays happen.

When you see the videos it's obvious that the entire team was very active and involved in all aspects of the game on both ends of the floor.

Carrie Moore Webb Clinic

Thanks very much to Carrie Moore for working so hard with the girls yesterday morning! Hope everyone had a great time and learned a lot!

From Carrie

Hey guys!

Just wanted to say thanks for letting me come down today. Although I was a bit sleep deprived, it was a beautiful day to come down and see your kneck of the woods and get in the gym with the girls again.

I know I say this a lot but your daughters are so talented and have TREMENDOUS potential. I'm just glad that I can be a tiny bit a part of them learning the game that I love so much.

I hope the games went well this afternoon. My lil sis played great at LIU. It was great to see her in a Tech uniform and be able to cheer her on in the college ranks.

I am now halfway home on the train and can't wait to hop in the bed when I get home.

:)

Thanks again,
Carrie

7-0!

Very nice job today!! Well balanced attack and you did a fantastic job of running "Boston". I am so proud of all of you.

Practice Wed 5-6:30 @ St. Hyacinth.

Go Storm!! 7-0 Awesome!!! :)

Another win in a long weekend!

Great job against St Rose on Sunday in spite of some extremely suspect officiating.

Fun Game!

Saturday's game against St Mary's was one of the very best The Storm has played! Great ball movement, great spacing, very unselfish play with everyone contributing. The entire team should be extremely proud of their effort and intensity.

Keep working hard, listening to coach, playing together as a team and good things will happen!

Great Practice!

The girls were working hard in preparation for a very big weekend.

Saturday the Storm travels back to St Mary's. Sunday we are at home against St Rose.

2010 Princeton Sports Camps Schedule Now Available

Schedule for Princeton Sports Camps is now available online if you click here.

Unfortunately the skills camp is going to be during the last week of the Glen Cove School District's school year.
Looks like Woody is planning on being out sick that week "cough... cough".

Carrie Moore Workout

The Storm had a fantastic trip down to Princeton New Jersey on Saturday for a workout with Carrie Moore at Jadwin Gym. All the girls worked extremely hard during a grueling session that lasted nearly three hours. Lots of concentration on fundamental basketball in addition to conditioning.

Carrie is a great motivator and an inspiration to the girls. She is now the head of women's basketball operations at Princeton after an impressive college career of her own leading the nation in scoring in 2007. Hopefully we can have Carrie come up to Long Island in the next few weeks to once again work with the girls.

Princeton Stony Brook Game

The girls and families had a great time last night! It was a wonderful game and the girls got to participate in some of the activities on the floor and meet some of the players after it was all over.

Great video of everyone having fun and all the college atmosphere. Who knew Aaron was such an amazing dancer?!

All the girls really took to Venus Rasheed and Devona Allgood who both had great games. They got to chat with them and their teammates after the game.

Great Scrimmage/ Princeton v Stony Brook

Great work by The Storm last night! It looked like the girls were learning a lot and figuring out some things that were new to at least a few of them. Scrimmages are a great way to see if what you are trying to think about and work on during practice is working in game situations. The scoreboard isn't what matters in a scrimmage, it's what is being taught and learned on the floor and the effort that the girls put in especially when they are down or trying new things. Experiences like these are what make good teams great and great teams even better. Thanks St Boniface!

The Storm will be going to Stony Brook University to see the Princeton Tigers women's basketball team play the Stony Brook Sea Wolves in the season opener of the 2009/10 season on Friday 11/13. It should be a great time for everyone! Thanks to Rikk Stone for setting this up. Big thanks to Carrie Moore, director of women's basketball operations at princeton, for the passes to Friday's game. Wear your black and orange!

Scrimmage Tonight

Tonight's scrimmage against St Boniface 6th graders should be a lot of fun. It will give The Storm a chance to work on their plays, see if they can run and perfect 5, twirl, 14 high, against bigger girls without the pressure of a real game. It will also be a nice way to stay ready for the Storm's next game against St Mary's on the 21st.

Gritty Win

Sometimes it makes you better when things don't come easy and you have to grind out a win like the Storm did yesterday. The shots weren't falling but you could see the intensity and determination as the defense stepped up big time in the second half for a gritty win.

Looking Ahead

Looks like the Storm, at 2-0, is one of three undefeated teams left in our CYO league. The other two are St Patrick which is 1-0 after beating St William, and Good Shepherd which is at 3-0. Some of the girls might remember playing Good Shepherd at St Dom's last April during Super League, they were called Wildfire. By the time we meet St Pats on 12/5 we should know more about them. We will play Good Shepherd in the Storm's last game of the season on 1/10. That should be a game for the girls to look forward to.

This weekend will feature three days of basketball for the Storm. On Friday the girls will have their third practice of the CYO season. All of the girls have realized by now that they must pick up a ball on their own and work on their game outside of practice and games if they truly want to get better. With limited gym availability and busy families with all kinds of busy schedules individual basketball "homework" becomes very important.

On Saturday at 3:45 The Storm will face St Bernard at St Hyacinth gym for our first home game! St Bernard is 2-2 and most recently won a close game against Christ The King.

On Sunday The Storm will travel alllllll the way down 25A to our close neighbor Manhasset and descend into the bowels of the earth to face a tough St Mary's team on their home floor for a noon game. Hey! Isn't there an iHop on the way there? hmmmm......

2-0 this early in the season is a very nice start but the girls must stay focused and ready... there is still an awful lot of basketball to be played.

GO STORM!
