Bunch of schedule changes so here is what I THINK is upcoming as of 12/16;
12/17 GCHS Varsity
Come out and support the Glen Cove Varsity Girls at home, 6:00 Friday.
If anyone wants to go and needs a ride to and from talk to GraceAnne or her Dad.
12/19 CYO Game Rescheduled
St Agnes Game has been moved to 1/6 in RVC at 7:45.
If you get a chance watch the Maggie Dixon Classic.
Rutgers v TX A&M 12:00 noon ESPNU
UConn v OSU 2:30pm ESPNU
Later Stanford plays TN at 7:00pm ESPN2
12/22 SL Game being Rescheduled
Not finalized yet but conflict with 6th grade concert necessitates rescheduling of Crusaders Super League game. Also, no practice.
1/2
Stay in shape, eat well, work on your game if at all possible. The next scheduled practice is more than 2 weeks away on 1/2, time yet to be determined.
I think there is a CYO game on this day at home against St Elizabeth as well, pretty sure.
1/3 SL Game
8:30 Monday night Super League game at Island Garden against a good Garden City team.
1/6 St Agnes CYO Game
This is the game that was originally scheduled for 12/19.
Coach Hudson will open the gym over the break so stay tuned for that.

Summer Camps
Time to start thinking about summer 2011 camps... NAH!
Some of the camps are already putting together their 2011 summer schedules. As I find camps I will post them on the Storm blog just so that all the parents are aware of them. Some of the girls have done camps and had a really good time, learned a lot, gained skills and confidence as well as made friends. As the camps accumulate I will list them under "camps" on the right side of this page so that parents can check them out as the summer approaches.
Princeton Overnight Camp just put its schedule up. Nobody has to miss any school this year if they want to attend this camp. Woody and Stone have gone the past two years and really have had a lot of fun. Feel free to ask them or the Woods/McStone families about their experience if you or your daughter are interested. There has also been a skills camp added for the weekend of June 10th. Personally, Remi and I have GraceAnne do it just so that we can say our daughter attended Princeton.

Exciting Game!
Not easy to overcome going scoreless in the first quarter, being down 17-2 at the half. Storm did it though going on a thrilling 21-6 run and tying the game with 3:47 left on the clock! It was an exciting and improbable comeback after a very slow start but not enough to beat a very good, very tough St Patrick's team. Storm got in foul trouble and didn't have enough left in the tank to finish the job, the loss brings the record to 9-1. The girls should be extremely proud of themselves for how they played, especially in the third, never giving up, keeping their composure, not giving an inch.
Some losses are tougher to take than others but this was not one of them. Losses, overcoming obstacles whatever they are, should be seen as opportunities to learn, grow and adapt. Storm has not seen a lot of adversity the past few seasons so it should be very interesting to see how the girls use this opportunity to become better players and better teammates.
Glen Cove Girl's Varsity Basketball opens its season today at Glen Cove High School at 4:30pm. It's a great chance for the girls to see what varsity level competition will be like and to support the team at the same time.

Great win against a very tough Christ The King Team!
Last night was another thriller in what has become a very fierce rivalry. In four games spanning the past two seasons, including playoffs, Hudson Storm has defeated Christ the King by an average of merely two points a game with every single contest coming down to the last possession. Last night was no different. Multiple lead changes in a seesaw battle, tied at the half, tied again in the third, tied yet again at 21 late in the fourth quarter and finally the Storm able to once again seal the deal, this time from the free throw line. Contributions from every member of the team were needed in pulling out the 24-21 victory in an extremely physical and entertaining game. CTK is no pushover and beating them was no easy task.
Congratulations on a great win against what is an extremely likely playoff team and possible future opponent! It takes the hard work, effort and determination of every single Storm player to make this kind of success happen. These hard fought battles are what make good teams great!

First Super League Win!
Storm woke up early Saturday morning to defeat a 7th-8th grade Garden City team at Island Garden. Storm was just too quick, just too relentless in overwhelming a bigger but, what ended up being an overmatched team. The press worked, the break worked, the half court offense mostly worked, the inbounds plays worked, shots were mostly falling, the bench played really well... what didn't work? Another productive game in Super League.
Storm Defeats St Rose at Home
Great Monday night game against a very tough St Rose team. Storm went into the halftime break down but came back energized in the third with lockdown defense holding St Rose to only 2 pts. Game was won in the third by a relentless press resulting in Storm possessions, unbelievable rebounding and Storm players going hard to the basket to draw fouls and convert their freethrows. I get the feeling the Storm will be seeing St Rose again in the playoffs.
Oh yeah! And... Speedy came back from a sprained ankle in the St Elizabeth game to be her usual relentless self against St Rose, all over the floor on every possession, hounding ball handlers, setting picks, rebounding and diving for loose balls. It was actually a little scary.

Great Weekend!
In spite of a tough loss in the Storm's first Super League game it was a very fun and successful weekend.
Sunday the Storm faced St Anthony for the second time this season, this time at home. The second unit played much of the game and did a very nice job on both the offensive and defensive ends. The starters also got their share of minutes and picked up right where their teammates left off. All Storm players contributing usually leads to a convincing victory and this Sunday afternoon was no different.
After the game several of the girls hung out to watch Taylah Hudson and Mikaela Hernandez beat up on St Aiden's.
Monday evening the Storm headed out to Huntington Station to face St Elizabeth at Stimson Middle School. This is a team we hadn't seen before and the girls weren't quite sure what to expect. What they got was a team that had very little experience but made up for it in heart and determination evidenced by how hard they played until the very end. Amara started at point guard and had a "career" game, crossovers, driving layups, rebounding, you name it. Unfortunately it did get a bit rough (unintentionally) and several of our players got banged up. Speedy bruised her heel on what was an absolutely spectacular driving layup. Hope that's all it is. She better be a fast healer because the Storm will need her defensive toughness and great attitude as the season goes on.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday Games
Lightning Prisco 7:30pm 11/13 Island Garden
First Super League game. First game this year playing up. We think we know these guys but it's hard to be sure. The lineup may have changed but either way we know it will be a battle, come ready to play or they will jump all over us. We will be tested.
St Anthony 3:45 Sunday 11/14 at St Hyacinth Gym
St Anthony's is 2-3 having won their first two games and then dropping the last three against very good teams. They were well coached when we beat them three weeks ago so having played against good competition you can bet they will be better and they will be hungry. Should be a good game.
St Elizabeth 7:00pm Monday 11/15 Stimson Middle School
St Elizabeth has lost their only two games. They have had two weeks off to practice and no team should be taken lightly. This game should be a good opportunity to see what the Storm is made of.
Stimson Middle School

Huntington Station, NY 11746

This is probably one of those weekends that will define who the Storm is as a team. Sleep good, eat well, play hard!

Monday Night Game
St Bernard tonight at St Hyacinth gym. Played these girls last year in CYO and in Super League so they should know us well by now. Coach wants players there by 6:30 to get warmed up and pregame instruction.
Just some video of last week's practice that I thought was fun. I'll have some vids from the CTK game later today or tomorrow.

Check the CYO site go to "sports", drop down menu to "Girl's Basketball", drop down menu to "6th grade", drop down menu to "A 51A".
We are one of only two remaining teams in our league without a loss. The other team? You guessed it, the St Pat's team that beat us in last year's Long Island Championship. Maybe both teams will stay undefeated until they meet on 12/5? Something to shoot for and look forward to at the same time!
From the overall record so far the league looks pretty even.

Niiice! Great way to start things off!
Hard fought win to start the season this past Saturday against a previously 2-0 St Anthony's team. Every single player, starting five to our indispensable reserves, was needed on both ends of the floor with all players contributing when called upon. These are the kind of challenging games that make us better prepared to win championships!
Started off a little shaky with just a 6-4 lead after the first quarter of play and the girls having a hard time finding an offensive flow. Storm eventually got going with the full court press leading to turnovers converted into easy baskets. Tristyn led the way scoring the first 8 points of the game.
Fast break started clicking at the start of the second half with Stone pushing the ball and making plays. That combined with stifling defense, Storm looked like it was just getting warmed up. Girls jumping into the passing lane, outstanding shot blocking by Woody and a tremendous all around game by Amara put the Storm in position to take a commanding lead but the offense was still finding its way and things were too close for comfort at the end of the third.
The fourth quarter belonged to Kamia hounding the ball and disrupting plays on every possession. The Storm had finally broken through and taken control with an overall team effort including Stone continuing to get out on the break, unbelievable quickness and a critical blocked shot by Speedy, great rebounding, toughness and decision making by both Evangelia and Diasya, defensive intensity on the interior by the tandem of Woody and Amara and Tristyn Hudson playing smart and effective defense in spite of having four fouls. Worth mentioning that our girls showed tremendous poise, intelligence and maturity by not becoming involved or distracted by the official who made several obvious errors, way to keep your heads in the game!
Great team effort! Great game in spite of having to overcome some obstacles. Great 34-18 win against what was a tougher than expected St Anthony's team. We will be seeing St Anthony's again in just a few weeks and considering how well they were coached I'm guessing it will be an even more entertaining challenge.
Thanks very much to Kevin for the iPhone clips! And, a reminder Hudson Storm family... this is YOUR site, if there is ever anything you wish to see on this site, if you have clips or still photos, comments or commentary... or if you see something that needs to be changed just let me know and I will do whatever I can to make it happen.

Little Storm
With a wonderful cold making the rounds only 6 girls were able to make it to practice last night. Those six certainly got a lot of work in! Much of the session was spent reviewing the plays for the"veterans" and introducing them to our "rookie"... as well as adding a new wrinkle or two.
Coach went over rebounding position and then ran a nice halfcourt three on three. Everyone worked hard and things are looking good for the upcoming season!

GO HARD!
Couple of Storm teammates headed over to Game7 in Rockville Centre for a training session. All four worked extremely hard getting prepared for the upcoming CYO season. It shows a lot of dedication to take some extra time on a Sunday afternoon working on your game. Dedication that will pay off during the season.

STORM WINS!
Storm wins in an overtime thriller!
Yesterday's 44-45 second round playoff victory over Christ the King was one to remember!
Every single member of the team played an integral role in grabbing an improbable victory from the jaws of defeat. The girls coming off the bench should be particularly proud of their efforts and contributions, there would have been absolutely no way to win that game without the hustle, rebounding, defending, diving on loose balls and clutch free throw shooting that they provided. There is without question no quit whatsoever in any of these girls! They are a very, very special group.
Championships next weekend! GO STORM!
