Progress...

Don't like to lose but the girls got better in a loss yesterday. Some great timely defense, clutch jumpshooting and girls driving to the hoop and drawing fouls kept it close and gave the Storm a chance to win it, stayed in the game until the very end.

Rough game, a grind, many fouls called but The Storm stayed out of foul trouble for the most part spreading them around. Third quarter comeback from being down 11 to get within 4, couldn't hold the momentum. Lots of defensive lapses in the third and fourth.

Fun game to watch against a team with good ball movement and active help defense. That's why we play up!

Preseason Tournament Champs!

Nicely run preseason CYO tournament at Fundamental Sports Training in Westbury. Brand new floor which was beautiful and a great opportunity for the girls to get to know one another prior to the CYO season. In the first game The Storm beat an overmatched St Boniface 8th grade B team.

In the second game The Storm were challenged but persevered against a combined Silver Bullets/NY Elite 7th, 8th grade team. The girls looked like they were working extremely hard but still having fun. They got a nice shiny medal for their efforts which made all the girls as well as the coach and parents very happy

Help us find a cure for pediatric cancer!

Storm,

Did you know that one in 300 Americans will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20? Did you know that each year cancer kills more children and adolescents than any other disease? Did you know that you can make a difference?

I've decided to do something about pediatric cancer and I'd like to invite you to help. The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation is holding its innaugural "Dribble for the Cure" on Saturday, September 24th at St. John's University. The money raised will fund research that explores causes, treatments and cures for pediatric cancer. PCRF works very hard to ensure that over 80% of all funds raised go directly to research.

If you cannot join us for the event, please consider making a donation to support our efforts. You'll be helping me reach my goal, as well as raising money to fight a disease that robs too many children of their childhood.

Making a donation is easy. Simply visit my personal home page on PCRF's official web site by clicking on the CLICK HERE link below and use your credit card to make a tax-deductible donation in any amount.

Thanks for helping the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation "Dribble for the Cure!"

Thanks!

Storm Family

Congratulations to North Shore on winning the 2011 Conference A-III Title!
North Shore had an undefeated 12-0 conference record and went 16-3 overall.

To finish out a great season Liz and Erin Sheerin both put up big numbers in a very tough and exciting game against Lynbrook in the quarterfinals of the Nassau class A playoffs!

Erin Sheerin hit 4 field goals and 7 free throws for 15 points
Liz Sheerin had two 3 pointers for 6 points

Early on, it looked like North Shore would win going away. The Lady Vikings hit three consecutive shots from behind the arc to open up a quick 9-0 lead. With Lynbrook struggling to handle North Shore’s defensive pressure, the Lady Vikings increased the lead to 15-2.

The Lynbrook Lady Owls closed out the first quarter on a 13-5 run to get back into the game, but North Shore continued to dominate in the second quarter. The Lady Vikings held a 43-29 lead at the half.

The game was billed as one of the most intriguing match ups of the Nassau girls’ basketball playoffs, and it lived up to the hype. There was a torrid start, a slew of turnovers, an incredible comeback, and a frantic finish. And in the end it was the play of a freshman phenom that made the difference.

Lynbrook freshman Jen Fay scored a career-high 31 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead No. 5 Lynbrook (15-4) to a thrilling 69-68 road win over No. 4 North Shore in the quarterfinal round of the Class A playoffs on Feb. 22. Junior Brooke Gerstman added 21 points for Lynbrook.

Congratulations to North Shore and to the Storm's own Sheerin family for a very successful 2011 girl's varsity season!

Glen Cove Varsity makes the playoffs for the first time in 18 years with big contributions from 8th graders Taylah Hudson and McKayla Hernandez!

"Glen Cove was led by eighth-grader Taylah Hudson’s 14 points. The game marked the first postseason appearance for Glen Cove since 1993."

"Glen Cove, which has seven underclassmen on its roster, including leading scorer eighth-grade guard McKayla Hernandez, got eight points from junior Nicole Alexander."

Win Some Lose Some

“Success is never final, failure is never fatal. It's courage that counts.”

It shows tremendous character to come back from a devastating loss, put it behind you and, beat the very same opponent only one day later. Dragon slayers! Great life lessons can be learned in what appears to be a simple playground game.

A New Year

The Storm started the new year with mixed results in its last two CYO games of the regular season.

A 1/6 Thursday evening loss to St Agnes was a humbling and hopefully a learning experience.

A 1/9 Sunday evening victory against St Elizabeth, in which no press and no fast break was implemented, was an equally valuable opportunity to figure out what it will take to win the Long Island Championship.

The next CYO action for the Storm will be in the playoffs.
